Brandi Worley became infamous for the brutal murder of her two children, Tyler and Charlee, perpetrated at their home on November 17, 2016. This horrific act was committed a day after her spouse, Jason Worley, had initiated divorce proceedings. Unaware of the unfolding calamity, Jason was asleep in the basement while Brandi fatally attacked their children and subsequently injured herself.
Brandi made a grim call to 911, stating, “I just stabbed myself and I killed my two children.” The incredulous dispatcher prompted Brandi’s mother to verify the horrifying situation. The appalling discovery led to screams that awoke Jason. A chillingly calm Brandi informed him, “Now you can’t take the kids from me.”
Brandi Worley is currently serving a life sentence in an Indiana prison
Following their tragic demise, Tyler and Charlee were laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington. Their story received widespread publicity, largely due to the intervention of YouTuber Philip DeFranco.
Jason reached out to Philip via Reddit, sharing that his children were fans of Philip’s content. Philip responded with a touching tribute in one of his videos and initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and Jason’s living costs. The campaign quickly accrued over $50,000, and donations continue to pour in.
Initially, Brandi Worley pleaded not guilty to two charges of felony murder, after recovering from self-inflicted injuries. She signalled her intention to plead insanity during her trial. However, in January 2018, she altered her plea to embarrassed. A present Jason told Indy Star, “She appeared to be just as unremorseful as she did in the 911 call… All I want and have ever wanted was to have her out of vision and attention so that I may move forward from this horror.”
In March of 2018, Justice Harry Siamas sentenced Brandi Worley Worley to 120 years behind bars. The judge, recognizing the darkness dwelling in people, did not explain the crime. At Indiana Women’s Prison in Indianapolis, Brandi, now a prisoner, remains unresponsive and reportedly deals with depression.
Her defense attorney, Mark Inman, spoke to The Journal Review about Brandi’s change in demeanor, transforming from emotional to impassive, which he believes is her coping mechanism. Mark stated, “She can’t understand why she did what she did.”
The motive behind Brandi Worley crime was to stop her husband from taking their children
It’s clear that the horrific murder of Tyler and Charlee was calculated in advance. Events unfolded on the day following Jason’s divorce filing. The family went to Charlee’s dance practice as per the timeline provided by the County Prosecutor.
After reaching home from a family dinner, Brandi excused herself to buy pipe cleaners for Tyler’s school project at Walmart but bought a Kabar combat knife instead. She hid the weapon in Tyler’s room.
Later, the couple played with their kids before putting them to bed. In the early hours of the next day, Brandi Worley tricked Jason into going to Charlee’s room where she attacked him. Charlee woke up amidst the chaos, but her mother told her to go back to sleep. After killing Tyler, she turned on Charlee.
Brandi attempted to commit suicide by stabbing herself in the neck but survived. Montgomery County Prosecutor Joe Buser noted, “She was more adept killing her small, sleeping children than killing herself.” When asked by the 911 dispatcher why she murdered her children, she replied, “My husband needed a separation and wanted to take my children.
Jason remained with Brandi due to her manipulation involving their children
Jason and Brandi tied the knot in August 2009 and welcomed their kids, Tyler in 2009 and Charlee in 2013. Jason once posted on the subreddit r/relationship advice about Brandi’s betrayal and her use of their children to coerce him to stay in their marriage.
Jason became suspicious when Brandi Worley password-protected her phone. She admitted to keeping a significant secret, claiming it was tied to her guilt. She fabricated a story about commissioning their neighbor to construct a home office for Jason. However, Jason found a flirtatious text from Brandi to the neighbor on her phone.
He installed tracking software on her phone to monitor her chats and location. While in their neighbor’s presence, he found messages between them professing their love for each other. Despite his urge to confront them, he kept his calm and continued to witness the unfolding conversation.
Jason confronted Brandi Worley, expressing his intentions to end their relationship. In response, Brandi threatened to use his past suicide attempt as advantage in a custody dispute. The following day, Jason arrived home to find his children in distress—Brandi had told them she was forced to move out because Jason was upset with her. Jason wrote, ” So, suppressing my emotions, I pleaded with her to remain.” He added, “I fear that after all this time, and considering the fact that I implored her to return, expressing my desire for a divorce now will only provoke her to act more maliciously towards my kids and me.”
