Lauren Mayberry

Date:

Lauren Eve Mayberry was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on 7 October 1987 – her zodiac sign is Libra and she holds British nationality. She’s a talented singer-songwriter, journalist, and writer, probably best known as the amazing vocalist of Chvrches, a fantastic synth-pop band from Scotland.

Early Life and Education

Lauren is rather secretive about her family and prefers to keep their details private, respecting their wish to stay out of the media spotlight. It’s widely believed that Lauren is an only child, as she has never mentioned any siblings.

Her passion for music sparked at a very young age. At just four years old, she began playing the piano, and by her early teens, she was already learning the drums. Lauren attended Beaconhurst School, where she was an active member of the school band. After graduating in 2005, she pursued higher education at the University of Strathclyde. There, she earned an undergraduate law degree and went on to complete a Master’s degree in 2010.

Career as a Musician

She embarked on her musical journey in the 2000s, kicking off her career with the band Boyfriend/Girlfriend. Her talents then took her to Blue Sky Archives, where she wowed audiences with her skills on the keyboard and drums, and captivated them as a vocalist. A standout moment in her career came when she and the band covered Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name,” skyrocketing their popularity.

The trio teamed up for eight months, ultimately forming a new band they named Chvrches (Churches). Their debut single “Lies” hit the blog Neon Gold Records on 11 May 2012, quickly becoming the most popular song on The Hype Machine and gaining significant airplay on BBC Radio 1 and SoundCloud. With eight more tracks ready for their fans, Chvrches officially debuted with the release of “The Mother We Share” on 5 November 2012.

Chvrches signed with Glassnote Records in January 2013 and toured around Europe before debuting in North America at Austin’s South by Southwest festival, where they snagged a Grulke Award for Best Non-American Act.

On September 25, 2015, Chvrches released their second album, “Every Open Eye,” along with three hit singles: “Leave a Trace,” “Never Ending Circles,” and “Clearest Blue.” These tracks quickly became fan favorites. In early 2017, the band set out to work on their third album, recording it in sunny Los Angeles, California.

The acclaimed American record producer Gregory Kurstin lent his expertise to the album “Love Is Dead,” which hit the airwaves on May 25, 2017. Fast forward to October 2019, and Chvrches released their captivating track “Death Stranding,” featured on the soundtrack of the action-packed video game “Death Stranding: Timefall.”

Chvrches has swept up several prestigious awards, shining brightly in the music world. They clinched the 2013 Robert Award Music Poll for Breakthrough Artist, the 2013 Popjustice £20 Music Prize for Best British Pop Single with “The Mother We Share,” and the 2014 A2IM Libera Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

Other jobs

Lauren has teamed up with a range of popular musicians and bands, including The National, Death Cab for Cutie, and Marshmello. She also worked with Hayley Williams, the well-known lead singer of Paramore.

Since earning her Master’s degree, Lauren has been working as a freelance journalist and has also ventured into production running. In 2010, she contributed to the independent online magazine “The Line of Best Fit.”

Interest in Politics

Lauren has never been shy about her political views, especially when it comes to former US President Donald Trump. During one of Chvrches’ concerts, she boldly labeled him as “an unpunished sexual predator in office.” Her outspokenness didn’t stop there; Lauren later expanded on her criticism, denouncing Trump as a racist, sexist, transphobic, and homophobic figure.

A passionate advocate for gun control in the US, Lauren’s activism intensified following the Sutherland Springs church shooting. She fervently criticised Trump for attributing the issue to mental health, pointing out the irony of his administration’s role in reducing access to necessary mental health services. Drawing comparisons to the UK’s swift legislative response to the Dunblane massacre, where a teacher and 16 students were tragically killed, Lauren emphasised the urgent need for effective gun control in the US.

 Love Life and Boyfriend

Despite Lauren’s denials, it’s widely rumoured that she once had a romantic connection with Justin Long, the well-known American actor, comedian, and film director. The buzz began in 2016 when they were frequently seen together in public, participating in numerous charity events. They even co-hosted a variety show at Los Angeles’ The Fonda Theatre, with all proceeds benefiting various charitable organisations. Their bond grew stronger as they travelled to a women’s shelter in Nicaragua. In May 2018, “The Guardian” covered their alleged relationship, but Lauren was quick to dismiss the dating rumours.

A few months later, in September, “People” magazine broke the news that Justin and Lauren had split after being together since 2016. Fast forward to October 2018, and during an interview with “Rolling Stone,” Lauren revealed she was single.

Since then, Lauren has kept mum about any other potential partners. As of March 2021, it seems Lauren is single, hasn’t tied the knot, and doesn’t have any children.
